Scope of this notice

This privacy notice explains how classicscifi.org.uk ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit our site. We are an independent review portal providing information about Basswin and similar online gambling operators. We are not affiliated with Basswin itself, and this notice concerns only data processed by classicscifi.org.uk – not what the operator collects once you register with them.

Our site is intended for visitors aged 18 and over (18+). We take data protection seriously and handle your information in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who controls your data

classicscifi.org.uk is the data controller for any personal information collected through this site. If you have questions about how we use your data, or want to exercise any of the rights set out below, write to us at [email protected].

Categories of information we collect

We collect two kinds of information when you use this site:

Technical data you provide passively – when you land on a page, your browser automatically sends us your IP address, device type, operating system, browser version and the page you visited. We also set cookies (small text files stored on your device) to remember preferences and measure site performance. See our Cookie Policy for full details.

Information you give us directly – if you fill in a contact form or send us an email, we collect your name, email address and whatever you write in your message. We do not ask for payment details, identity documents or gambling account credentials – we have no reason to, since we don't operate a casino or hold player accounts.

Why we process your data

We use the information above for these purposes:

  • To deliver the pages you request and keep the site running properly
  • To answer questions you send through our contact form or email
  • To understand how visitors use the site – which pages are read most, where traffic comes from, which devices people use – so we can improve layout and content
  • To show relevant advertising through third-party networks (Google Ads, affiliate platforms) that fund the site's operation

Lawful basis for processing

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful reason to process your data. Here's what applies to each category:

Purpose Legal basis
Delivering the site and responding to contact requests Legitimate interests – you visited or wrote to us, and we need basic data to reply
Analytics (Google Analytics, similar tools) Consent – you agree through the cookie banner when you first arrive
Marketing and affiliate tracking Consent – again, via the banner

You can withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your cookie preferences in your browser or through our cookie-management tool.

Who else sees your information

We share limited data with these categories of third party, each for a specific reason:

Analytics providers – Google Analytics receives anonymised traffic data (pages visited, time on site, rough location inferred from IP address) so we can measure what works and what doesn't. Google processes this under its own privacy policy.

Advertising networks and affiliates – if you click a link to Basswin or another operator, the affiliate platform (such as an affiliate network or tracking service) logs that click to credit us for the referral. They see your IP, timestamp and the page you came from – nothing more personal than that.

Hosting and infrastructure – our web host stores the site's files and server logs, which include IP addresses and access timestamps for security and uptime monitoring.

We never sell your data to third parties. Every processor we work with is contractually required to handle your information securely and only for the purpose we specified.

International transfers

Some of the services above (Google Analytics, certain ad networks) store data on servers outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses or other safeguards recognised under UK GDPR. If you'd like detail on a specific transfer, contact us at [email protected].

How long we keep your data

We retain information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected:

  • Server logs and anonymised analytics: 26 months, then automatically deleted
  • Contact-form submissions and emails: up to 3 years after the conversation ends, in case you follow up; then removed
  • Cookie identifiers: expire according to each cookie's own lifespan – see our Cookie Policy for the list

Once the retention period ends, data is either anonymised (stripped of anything that identifies you) or securely deleted.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding personal data we hold about you. Each is real and enforceable – if we can't comply we'll explain why, in writing, within a month.

Right of access – ask us to confirm whether we process your data, and request a copy of it. We'll provide this free of charge in a commonly used electronic format.

Right to rectification – if data we hold is inaccurate or incomplete, you can ask us to correct or complete it. Applies to contact details, mainly, since we hold little else.

Right to erasure – request deletion of your data when it's no longer necessary for the purpose we collected it, or when you withdraw consent. Some legal obligations (such as keeping financial records for tax) may override this, but we'll tell you if that's the case.

Right to restriction – ask us to stop processing your data temporarily while we verify its accuracy, or while you object to how we use it. We can still store it; we just won't actively use it until the issue is resolved.

Right to data portability – receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (such as CSV or JSON) so you can move it to another service. This applies when processing is based on consent or contract, and is carried out by automated means.

Right to object – ask us to stop processing data for direct marketing (we'll stop immediately) or for legitimate interests (we'll stop unless we can show compelling grounds that override your rights).

Right to withdraw consent – where processing relies on consent (analytics, advertising), you can withdraw it at any time through your browser's cookie settings or by contacting us. Withdrawal doesn't affect the lawfulness of processing before you withdrew.

How to exercise your rights

Send a request to [email protected] with enough detail for us to identify you – typically the email address or IP range you're writing from, and the date range you're asking about. We'll respond within one month, free of charge. If your request is complex or we receive several at once, we may extend that to three months and will tell you within the first month if so.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's supervisory authority for data protection. Visit ico.org.uk or call their helpline on 0303 123 1113 if you believe we've mishandled your data.

Protection of minors

This site is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Basswin itself enforces an 18+ minimum age for account registration, and our content is written for an adult audience interested in gambling – we discuss wagering, deposits, responsible-gambling tools and real-money play throughout.

If you're a parent and believe your child has given us personal information, contact us immediately at [email protected] and we'll delete it. Consider parental-control software (such as Net Nanny, Qustodio or your device's built-in controls) to restrict access to gambling-related content on shared devices.

Security measures

We protect data through HTTPS encryption (the padlock in your browser's address bar), regular software updates, access controls on our servers, and secure password policies for anyone with backend access. No system is perfectly secure – if we ever suffer a breach that risks your rights, we'll notify you and the ICO within 72 hours as required by law.

Changes to this notice

We may update this privacy notice to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements or the services we use. When we do, we'll post the revised version here with a new "Last updated" date at the bottom. If the change is significant (such as a new category of data collected or a new third party with access), we'll flag it prominently at the top of the page for 30 days. Check back occasionally – continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
